l Tour packages could range from one-day trips that are priced at Rs. 1,000 upward, to several week long trips (hotel bookings included) that cost upward of several thousand USD depending on the levels of accommodation chosen.

l The routes range from thoroughly off-beat, off-road trails to the regular tourist circuits along Thattekkad, Munnar, Thekkady, Kumarakom, Alappuzha, Fort Kochi, Vagamon and the like.

l Most bicycle tour operators provide their guests a geared cycle that matches their height, a helmet, gloves, water, refreshments and meals along the ride, as well as a cab that follows cyclists in case someone is injured or needs rest.

Tours are usually guided by an experienced local and are open to both Indian and international tourists.

l Some operators also offer self-guided tours where only a cab accompanies cyclists.

l Anyone with a basic level of fitness can take a bicycle tour.

While covering several dozen km a day may seem daunting at first, the tours are usually well phased out, with plenty of stops in between, allowing even first-timers to cope.
