Car and bike questions? We have the answers

I drive a Chevrolet Tavera and want to go in for a seven-seater SUV that is comfortable, delivers good fuel economy and costs between Rs. 5 lakh and Rs. 11 lakh. Please guide.

Arish Syed

Unfortunately, there is no decent seven-seater at the cheaper end. As a step-up from the Tavera, we suggest you look at the Innova which you simply can't go wrong with.

It is efficient, very comfortable and reliable. The higher variants, which have more equipment and features, will be beyond the price range you have specified. But we feel that it's worth the stretch.

What's the difference between traction control and stability control?

Yash Sawant

Traction control prevents the driving wheels from spinning if you accelerate too quickly for the level of grip available, by reducing the engine's power. Stability control helps keep you straight and narrow — for example, if you enter a corner quickly. It limits engine power, too, and can apply the brakes to individual wheels to prevent you from spinning, or going straight on at a turn.

I want to buy a new 150cc bike and I am confused between the Honda CB Unicorn Dazzler and the Suzuki GS150R. My riding is mostly within city limits. Please suggest a bike with engine refinement, good gearshift quality, stability, mileage and ease of maintenance. I it true that Suzuki is stopping production of the GS150R?

Yeash Kurup

Both 150s are comparable in terms of power though the Dazzler is faster, completing the 0-60kph dash in 5.19 seconds as compared to GS' 6.33 seconds. The performance gap widens at faster speeds with the Dazzler reaching 100kph from rest in 17.73 seconds and the GS taking a significantly longer 23.85 seconds for the same. The Dazzler also offers better refinement, gearshifts, stability and handling. Both bikes offer good fuel economy.

When tested for mileage, the Dazzler returned 50.8kpl in the city and 51.1kpl out on the highway. The Suzuki returned a slightly higher 51.2kpl in city riding and 52kpl on the highway. No, we do not have confirmation from Suzuki regarding their stopping production of the GS150R.

I am a college student and looking to buy a new bike. I ride approximately 20 km every day.

I am confused between the Honda CBF Stunner and Bajaj Pulsar 135LS. Mileage is an important deciding factor.

Chirag

While both bikes deliver good mileage, we suggest you go for the Bajaj Pulsar 135LS. It offers fine performance and features such as a digital speedometer and gas-charged rear shock absorbers, which are unavailable on the Honda CBF Stunner.
