Car and bike questions? We have the answers

I want to purchase a new SUV and am looking at either the Mahindra Scorpio or Tata Safari DICOR. The Scorpio is a good car, but I have noticed that it has less legroom as compared to the Safari. On the other hand, the Safari has great legroom and is more comfortable than the Scorpio. However, I have a problem with the Safari's RPM meter. The red line starts from 3,000 rpm, which I think will need constant gear changes and more wear and tear on the gearbox. Which one should I ultimately go for? Karanver SinghWe suggest you go for the Scorpio because even though it has lesser legroom, it is a better overall vehicle compared to the DICOR. The Safari has loads of space but is inferior to the Scorpio. It has a 3000rpm redline, because it is powered by a diesel engine that is derived from the low-revving Tata 407 light commercial vehicle and is rather crude. Also, you would need to change gears more frequently in the Safari. Mahindra has launched an upgraded version of the Scorpio and we recommend you go in for the newer version. Why choose the Honda Unicorn in the 150cc category? I have ridden both the Unicorn and the Pulsar, and I feel that the Pulsar is much easier to ride and has an excellent engine, which is faster and delivers better fuel efficiency. The Pulsar is also better value for money due to the long list of features, and is, in my opinion, just as refined as the Unicorn.Kartik BajpaiDifferent riders look for different things from their bikes. There is no doubt that the Pulsar 150 and Unicorn are very closely matched. We agree completely that the Unicorn lacks specifications when compared to the Pulsar and have highlighted this repeatedly in our comparisons. The Pulsar is also faster, though the gap in performance is not glaring. Engine refinement, however, is better on the Unicorn. But the one factor that tilts this comparison in the Unicorn's favour is the Pulsar 150's gearshift. The 150's gearshift has a tendency to find the occasional false neutral and lacks the smoothness and feel that a top-class bike should have. Were the Pulsar to have gearshift quality at par with the Unicorn, it would no doubt be the 150cc segment leader.I recently bought a Ford Fiesta diesel and would like to change to 15-inch alloys. Can I go ahead with this change and if so, could you please suggest the tyre size for the same? SudhakarYou can fit 15-inch alloys with 205/50-R-15 tyres on your Fiesta. But please remember that these tyres will reduce your ride comfort. A better idea would be to stick to the original 14-inch wheels and fit 185/65-R-14 tyres or 195/60-R-14 tyres on them. We feel that these will be ideal for performance as well as comfort. Write in with your queries to metrowheels@gmail.com
