Ranjani and Gayatri, now better known as vocalists, began their music career as violin duet artistes even before they had reached their teens. Through their intense training from Sangita Bhooshanam Prof. T. S. Krishnaswami, they quickly established themselves as top-class violinists of international repute. The sisters achieved success as violin duet performers, and subsequently they also proved successful as violin accompanists. Both Ranjani and Gayatri have accompanied various artists on the violin, including D.K. Pattammal.

The sisters began to give vocal concerts from 1997, after they became students of P. S. Narayanaswamy in 1994.

After nearly 15 years Ranjani and Gayathri are back to perform a violin concert for Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira. They will perform to the accompaniment of Manoj Shiva on the mridangam and Omkar Rao on ghatam. The concert is on June 23, at Gayana Samaja, 5.30 p.m.

Two awards – Raga Laya Prabha – will also be given away on that day.
