What's special on the small screen for the Pongal season
Pongal, the harvest festival, is celebrated with verve by Tamils across the world. TV channels have planned a host of special programmes for the festive season. Here are some of the highlights.
January 14: Jaya TV starts the day auspiciously with Mangala Isai at 5 a.m. Leading Kollywood actor Shriya shares her wishes and dreams with viewers on “Shriya Dreams” at 9 a.m. “Dhanush-in Kutti Payanam” at 4 p.m. will offer a peek at the actor's journey through the film industry. “Modhi Vilayadu” at 5 p.m. will see Sangavi, Sathish and other actors and directors play traditional games such as Uriyadithal, Rangoli and Manjuvirattu with fake cows. On “Vinayudan Oru Vilaiyattu” at 9.30 p.m., actor Vinay travels with the Chennai college girls in a luxury bus, and chats with his fans all through his travel.
January 15: Playback singer Vel Murugan will render folk songs with his group at 6.30 a.m. on “Nattupura Paatu”. On “Goa Travels” at 4.30 p.m., Premji, Jai and others share their experience of acting in the much-awaited film, “Goa”. Actors Sibiraj and Prasanna will be the special guests for the Pongal episode of the breakfast show “Good Morning Tamizha” at 7.30 a.m. An interview with Padmapriya will be aired at 8.30 a.m. She plays an unusual role in “Irumbukkotai Murattu Singam”, which is yet to release. Yuvan Shankar Raja, the music composer of the upcoming movies “Goa” and “Theeradha Vilayattupillai”, talks about his musical journey at 9.30 p.m. on “Yuvar Shankar Raja”. January 16: “Kanavu Devadhai: Namitha” at 5 p.m. features an interview with the dream girl of the Tamil film industry, Namitha. At 9 a.m., watch the preview of the movie “Kadhai” which marks the directorial debut of the small screen actor Abishek. First-time director-cum-actor Gowthaman talks about what happened on the sets of his upcoming film “Magizhchi” at 9.30 p.m. The cast and crew of the film also join in the conversation. “Azhagana Ratchasan” at 12.30 p.m. features actor Sampath of “Chennai 28” and “Thirupathi” fame.
January 14: Vijay TV begins the day on a spiritual note with “Arul Urai” and “Samarpanam” at 7 a.m. and 7.30 a.m. respectively. At 8 a.m., watch “Kaviarangam — Thai Magalae Varuga”, a show which will see the participation of young lyricists from the film industry; they will quote suitable lines from their poetic creations. At 9 a.m., watch “Surya's Vidhai”. On this show to be moderated by actor Surya, talented youngsters who are not able to achieve great things in life due to lack of money will be seated on one side. In order to create opportunities for them, Agaram has collected Rs.10 lakh from various persons. “Super Singer Awards” will be aired at 11 a.m. It will be followed by “Neeya Naana” Pongal special at 1 p.m. Watch the cast and crew of “Aayirathil Oruvan” speak about their experience of acting in this project at 3 p.m.. The curtain-raiser of the Dhanush-Shriya starrer “Kutty” will be telecast at 7.30 p.m.
January 15: The day begins with “Aanmega Pattimandram” at 7 a.m. Watch “Ayitha Ezhuthu” at 8 a.m. This will be followed by “Koffee with Anu Season 3” at 9 a.m. where actors Dhanush and Shriya will be the special guests. At 10.30 a.m. watch a special show featuring director and actor Venkat Prabhu. “Titanic” (Tamil version) will be telecast at11.30 a.m. At 4.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m., watch the curtain-raisers of the films “Thamizh Padam” and “Porkkalam” respectively.
January 16: “Jodi Porutham” will be aired at 9 a.m. Following this, watch the emotional story of a silk weaver in the film “Kanchivaram”, directed by Priyadarshan. An interview with National Award winner Prakash Raj on the making of the movie will precede the telecast. At 2 p.m. watch the special episode of “Samayal Samayal”.
