The annual ‘DC International Book Fair and Cultural Fest’ begins on November 28
It’s a bibliophile’s world at the 16th edition of the ‘DC International Book Fair and Cultural Fest’, which begins on November 28.
The 14-day fete features an exhibition and sale of a wide variety of books – fiction and non-fiction, academic and scientific, from 350-plus international, national and regional publishing houses. Veteran Kannada filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli inaugurates the fete on November 28, at 5.30 p.m .
On all days of the fete, at 5.30 p.m., there are book releases/ literary discussions and/or cultural events. Here are some select events. On November 28 catch the release of Adoorinte 11 Thirakathakal and a Carnatic music concert by Divya Subin. Discussion on the biography Kudiyante Kumbasaram is on November 29 . A flute concert by Prasad Punithura and Navin Narayanan follows. On November 30 is the release of the recipe compilation Pachakarani Vols. 1 and 2 (3 p.m.). Following the release of Lokathinte Nerukayyil Chumbikku and Easwaran Snehicha Kuttikal , there will be a bansuri concert by Sasi Pookkad and Raveesh on December 1 . Swarabhedangal, written by voice artiste Bhagyalakshmi, will be released on December 2 . On December 3 , Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan participate in the release of a book of cartoons – V.S. Cartoonukal .
There will also be an exhibition of cartoons. Culinary host Lakshmi Nair’s book Magic Oven Fabulous Recipes will also be released on the day.
On December 4 is the release of Enthoro Mahanubhavulu written by C.P. Nair and Babu Paulinte Lekhanangal, authored by Babu Paul. Tagore Kathakal Sampoornam, Rumiyude 101 Pranayageethangal , and culinary hostess Deepa Gopakumar’s Priya Pachakam will be released on December 5 . On December 6 Sugathakumari’s Kudathil Kadal and M.R. Anilkumar’s English Poocha are among the books that will be released.. On December 7 is the release of Thilakan – Orma, Smarana and New Generation Cinema . This will be followed by a cookery demonstration by Naushad of ‘Big Chef’ fame (6.30 p.m.).
Shashi Tharoor inaugurates the DC online book store on December 8 at 5 p.m. Asuravithu and Nalukettu , both written by M.T. Vasudevan Nair, Pranayathazhvarayile Devadaru , written by George Onakkoor, and so on will be released prior to a discussion on the novel Aarachar (6.30 p.m.).
On December 9 at 5.30 p.m., is the release of four books on music, followed by those authored by Sister Jesme, Sohanlal, Hemina Jabbar, and so on (6.30 p.m.). The fete concludes on December 11. It is at Kanakakunnu Palace grounds, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
