Wheat is part of the daily diet in many homes and comes in various forms - cracked wheat porridge, whole wheat flour breads or refined wheat flour.But the sprouted form of the grain is a recent phenomenon; the sprouted form of any grain is nutritious as it is rich in vitamins and minerals. Take wheat grass. It's not only rich in vitamins and minerals but also a good source of dietary fibre. For years, wheat grass was grown in many Indian homes during the festival season but never consumed. But all that has changed.The best way to have wheat grass is in the juice form as it retains all the nutrients and is good for those suffering from diabetes, obesity, hypertension and high cholesterol. Also, it is a natural power and energy drink. Include wheat grass in your breakfast for your daily requirement of vitamins A, B, C, E and K, calcium, iron, lecithin, magnesium, pantothenic acid, phosphorus, potassium and amino acids.Wheat grass contains all the elements that are missing in your body's cells, especially enzymes, vitamins, hormones, and nucleic acids. Wheat grass juice has been proven to be beneficial in numerous ways: cleansing the lymph system, building blood, restoring balance in the body, removing toxic metals from the cells, nourishing the liver and kidneys and restoring vitality. It is a green, growing and processing plant that eventually becomes a shaft of wheat, produces grain, dies and can be harvested. At just seven days, the wheat grass is 6 to 9 inches tall and can be cut and juiced.

Grow at home

It is now available in the market in small plastic troughs. It is also simple to grow wheat grass plant at home.Pre-sprout: When growing grass at home, you must pre-sprout it before planting. Put seeds into a bowl or a sprouter. Add 2-3 times as much cool (60-70 degrees) water. Mix to ensure the seeds come in contact with water. Allow seeds to soak for 8-12 hours. Transfer the seeds into the sprouter if necessary. Drain the water. Rinse once again and drain thoroughly. Keep it anywhere out of direct sunlight and at room temperature. Rinse and drain again after 8-12 hours. And, repeat the process once more after another 8-12 hours. The aim is to get a small root before planting.When seeds have sprouted tiny (1/8-1/4 inch) roots, it is time to plant. This is achieved typically after just 2-3 'rinse and drain' cycles. In a trough, take moist good quality soil and carefully plant each seedling with the shoots facing upwards and sprinkle some water. Leave the trough covered for about 12 hours after which you can put the trough in the sun and let the grass grow for 3 to 4 days. Now, it is ready for consumption.WHEAT GRASS JUICEIngredients Wheat grass - 20 sprigs (with roots washed)Mint - 1 sprigLemon juice - 5 mlSalt - a pinchAny vegetable - optionalMethod: Put the ingredients in a blender bowl, add half cup water/ice and blend it for two to three minutes. Pour in a glass and serve immediately. To get maximum benefit of the juice, do not strain.
