Adhyayan, Shekhar Suman’s son, is busy signing films
He seems to be the favoured star child in the film industry these days. At 19, Adhyayan Suman, Shekhar Suman’s son, has not only completed two films but also signed four more. And to quote the father, he has signed one of them for Rs.1 crore!
Produced by Kumar Mangat and directed by Anil Devgan, his debut film Haal-e-Dil, a romantic comedy, is ready for release.
He is accompanied by two more new faces, Mangat’s daughter Amita Pathak and Nakkul Mehta.
Says an excited Adhyayan, “In the film I play Rohit, a rich guy but not a spoilt brat. He is more interested in playing pranks on his college mates than studying. He is childish and is alien to love for he never got any at home. He falls in in love and finds an emotional anchor in life.”
Though this role fell into his lap, Adhyayans admits he wasn’t quite ready to join films so early. After completing school, he acquired a diploma in direction and acting from New York and had come to Mumbai for his vacation.
“I went for a haircut to my stylist. I asked him to spike my hair. After a while I saw Ajay Sir (Devgan) entering. I heard him asking, ‘Who is this guy?’ As soon as I reached home, I got a call from Kumar Mangat. I was asked to do four scenes in my audition. After the first one, they asked me to go home. I was sure I had tarnished my father’s image (of a good actor). But the next day I was asked to start shooting. It was like a fairytale,” says Adhyayan who was “obese at 120 kgs till last year”.
According to Shekhar, someone asked Adhyayan, “Why can’t you be as slim as your father?” Recounts the proud father, “It pinched him and he challenged me that he would soon be as slim as I am. And he lost 45 kg in just three months.”
Adhyayan’s next release is Raaz-2, opposite Kangana Ranaut, and Mohit Suri’s untitled comedy which will also be Suri’s first attempt at comedy.
“I have signed three films with Zee that they are likely to make with Satish Kaushik, David Dhawan and Tigmanshu Dhulia,” says the young actor, who idolises Hollywood actor Daniel Craig, besides his father.RANA SIDDIQUI
