An old woman on her deathbed tells her daughter about the man who was born old and aged in reverse. That man is the handsome Brad Pitt, born hideously old and ugly. He is abandoned and grows up the hard way, learns to walk/run, fights the World War… the works. The film is quite reminiscent of “Forrest Gump”. Brad Pitt was nominated for ‘Best Actor’ at the Oscars for this role. He has little work in the film, but impresses with his understated style. Also starring Cate Blanchett and Taraji P. Henson.

Kunjithapatham, a village youth, lands a lucrative job, but his joy is short-lived as he is caught in the crossfire between two rival gangs. The protagonist is real, often reduced to tears, and is taunted as a “cockroach”. Aravindhan is convincing as the timid Kunjithapatham, and later as the fighting machine. Joining him is Charmi, cast in a refreshingly different character. Also starring Kota Srinivasa Rao and Jaya Prakash as dons.

A remake of the Hindi hit Taxi No 9211, this film pits powerhouse performer Pasupathi against the promising Ajmal. If the movie, directed by A. Lakshmikanthan, is watchable, the credit goes to the cast, which includes Simran, shining in yet another finely nuanced performance as Pasupathi’s wife. Also starring Meenakshi as Ajmal’s girl. A ride you can quite enjoy.
