‘Straight from the Fire' at Hotel Pankaj has a wide selection of tandoor dishes

The tandoori food fete at Hotel Pankaj is aptly named ‘Straight from the Fire.' The rooftop restaurant at the hotel offers a wide variety of tandoori dishes that includes vegetarian and sea food kebabs and tikkas.

Make the most of the cool evenings and get a bird's eye view of the Secretariat and the busy street down below while you wait for your plate full of tandoor delights. Live instrumental music is played on weekends.

The hot seller among the vegetarian tandoor delights on offer is the Shahan Shaw kebaba that has cubes of apple, pineapple, bamboo shoot, onion, capsicum and tomato grilled on the tawa. The interesting combo of ingredients is a delectable blend of flavours that lingers on the palate. Vegans can also try paneer reshmi kebab and paneer pudina tikka, both priced at Rs. 140.

For most of us, the word tandoor conjures up images of succulent pieces of chicken slowly turning reddish golden on a split or a skewer. And this fete does not disappoint fans of the ubiquitous tandoori chicken.

Some of the popular kebabs and tikkas that the chicken counter doles out are spicy Hyderabadi kebab (a melting combination of chicken and cheese), Pahari kebab coated with red chilly and crushed coriander seed and Chicken Hariyali Tikka (chicken marinated with spinach, mint and spices).

Scrumptious delight

The scrumptious Rose C Kebab, made of deboned chicken leg and marinated in kawa (thickened milk), is a visual delight as well; it looks like a rose, true to its name. The chicken kebabs and tikka are all priced at Rs. 170 each.

Among the mutton tandoor delicacies, Galouti Kebab is the most popular. Priced as Rs. 180, it is lamb marinated in ginger, garlic, red chilly powder, papaya paste and besan. Executive chef Lal Kumar says his favourite is the dorra kebab. “It is not a very commonly found kebab and is mainly made of beef paste and pepper and ghee,” he adds.

For sea food lovers, there is the tandoori karimeen and tiger prawns, Fish tikka Amritsari, Fish Afghani and more. An exotic variety of Indian breads is available to go along with the tandoori dishes. Kabooli naan with dry fruits, Shahi naan with paneer and cheese, Lacha paratha, Methi paratha and Missi roti augment go well any of the tandoor dishes.

Top it off with a free ice cream that accompanies every tandoor order. The restaurant opens at 7 p.m. Telephone 2464645 for reservations. The food fete is on till May 16.
