The actor talks about his upcoming releases in Bollywood and working with Sunny Leone
Taaha Shah is most popular for playing the loathsome and loveable Luv and dancing unabashedly to the ‘mutton’ song from the Y-Films movie Luv Ka The End . He also played the hunk in Gippi’s life in the film Gippi by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Now, the actor is gearing up for two releases this year plus a new big banner film which is still all hush-hush. Plus, the three-film deal with Yash Raj Films is still in his hand. The actor it is a good phase in his life as he is going beyond the boundaries that his two first films had set. “Thankfully, I have roles that are allowing me to do more as an actor. I hope the trend continues,” he says.
Taaha will be seen first with Pakistani actor Sara Loren in Zahara Productions’ Shadab Mirza-directed Barkhaa , an intense love story. His next film is Pen Entertainment’s Tina And Lolo with Sunny Leone and Karishma Tanna. “Shadaab gave me a wonderful opportunity to get in touch with that part of me which I was trying to brush under the carpet,” says the actor of his role in Barkhaa . Taaha plays an influential lawyer’s son who falls in love with a small town girl from Himachal Pradesh. “The basis of the story is forgiveness. Often, we forget that other people have their own difficulties and that everyone deserves a second chance. With Barkhaa , I came to terms with some difficult aspects and people in my life too. It has been an enriching experience,” he says. About his co-star Sara, Taaha says, “We got along very well since both of us are from Dubai. She would share with me her experience of working in Pakistan.”
Tina And Lolo is a dramatic turn from this film. Inspired by Hollywood flick Thelma & Louise , the film primarily revolves around the two girls Sunny and Karishma. “I play the sort of character that Brad Pitt did but while his was a 10-minute walk-on part, mine is meatier. I am the one who eventually teams up with them and helps them get out of the crazy situations they get themselves into,” says Taaha of Mario, his character. He had to sport long hair and a beard for this role and even learn acrobatics and martial arts. About working with Sunny Leone, he says, “You’d never realise her past if you meet her. She is down-to-earth, a very sweet and angelic girl.”
Taaha is super excited about his next big banner film which, he says, is “a romance, a comedy and a buddy movie woven together”. Asked why he never had another release with Yash Raj Films, which usually works on a three-film deal with its actors, and he says, “I have a deal with them. Adi sir (Aditya Chopra) has told me that when he has something to suit me we will work together. It can be either with the main Yash Raj banner or their youth films wing Y-Films.”
