In focus An event that aims to throw light on unexplored avenues for research in Germany
USA is a popular education destination for many engineering students in the country; the UK and Australia are next in line, but what about the European countries you may ask? To address this very concern, The German House for Research and Innovation (Deutsches Wissenschafts-und Innovationshaus), DWIH’s Excellence on Tour 2013 is being held at Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology. Students from across the city, flocked to listen to lectures by eminent professors and school children participated in a ‘learn German’ workshop. The ‘Excellence on Tour 2013’ is an initiative by the German government and DWIH to promote Germany as a ‘land of ideas’ to help students look at the country as a prospective place to conduct research through a variety of exhibitions, workshops, seminars, lectures, symposiums, quizzes and cultural events.
An interesting feature of the week-long event is the ‘Indo-German Science Slam’ which invites researchers to present their topics to eminent researchers by way of a talk or even a musical performance.
Walk into the ‘VIP’ room and you will see an exquisite collection of paintings from Mauer Museum (Wall Museum) in Berlin. Chandana Khan, Secretary to Roads and Buildings Department and Principal Secretary of Tourism Culture Youth and Sports presented 20 paintings and photographs digitised on canvas of the broken pieces of the wall. The concept of the wall stands for negative connotation of the Berlin Wall which divided families, individuals under an authoritarian regime.
