EVENT Isai, a global music festival, at Express Avenue

The best of world music is all set to rock Chennai city with, ‘Isai’, the global music festival with the local heart’ on February 9 and 10. Fourteen national and international musicians come together in the two-day festival that kicks off at The Hilton with a performance by Sean Roland and Friends. The band includes classical vocalist Sean Roldan and Pradeep Kumar who has performed in more than 200 Carnatic concerts. Tablatronic continues the opening night festivities with percussionist Subhash, drumming up Indian-influenced fusion music.  

 There’s more to follow at Express Avenue with a playlist that includes a line-up of musicians such as Fantazio, a Parisian, whose music is spiked with punk and old rock ‘n’ roll influences; Emergence, a band that promises to take listeners on a soulful journey between spirituality and humanity; Joint Family, featuring popular artistes like Blaaze, and DJ Kave and Paul, who bring to the table a heady mix of Carnatic music, Buddhist chants and hardcore jamming.

 Day two features UNK, belting out an eclectic mix of jazz, blues, Indian music, funk and hip-hop with Radha Thomas of ‘Human Bondage’ fame, headlining as the singer. And then there’s French band, Boogers, starring O Stephane Charasse, a former DJ on a radio station, who is now synonymous with idiosyncratic indie music. Isai will be held at 3 p.m., Express Avenue at Buddha Garden, Whites Road, Royapettah.
