Music Qawwali, Baul and Pandvani at Ruhaniyat on February 12 at Madras Race Club

The 12th All India Sufi and Mystic Music Festival ‘Ruhaniyat’ will be held on February 3 (6.30 p.m.) at Madras Race Club, Guindy. Conceived and designed by Mahesh Babu, managing director, Banyan Tree, in 2001 in Mumbai; Ruhaniyat is one of the oldest and the only festival of its kind in the country that nurtures neglected, near extinct art forms.

The works of great mystics and sufi saints are brought to life by immensely talented carriers of living traditions from remote parts of the country.

This year the festival is travelling to two more cities — Raipur and Ahmedabad, making it a nine-city festival including Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune and Bengaluru.

The line-up of artistes this year:

Kapalik Pandvani — Meena Sahu and group (Chattisgarh)

Shabad & Sufi Kalam - Madan Gopal Singh & Chaar Yaar (Punjab)

Mystic Ravanhatta Ensemble - Sugunaram & Group (Rajasthan)

Baul Songs - Parvathy Baul (West Bengal)

Sema - Whirling Dervishes (Turkey)

Sufi Qawwali – Nizami Brothers & Group (Delhi)
