The sari is here again with a traditional and yet modern look. Ratna Jain launched her “Pearls Unstrung Collection” under the successful label “Tantra” this week. Her collection is inspired by the Arabian Sea and the beaches of Goa The clothes are intended to depict the endless miles of warm sunny beaches and the joyful gaiety of the colourful Goan heritage. The elements used include lots of French chantilly, lace, nets, beads, crystals and layer on layer work.

Range of shades

The colours range from aqua shades to various hues of red. There is also includes bridal wear with heavy kundan work. The collection is an eclectic mix of saris, put in a contemporary context and easy to carry to suit the aesthetic sensibilities of today. The starting range is Rs.7500.

An interior designer by training, Ratna holds a degree from SNDT College, Mumbai, besides a Bachelor in Fine Arts from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in the U.S. .

Like many Indians, Ratna, who says she loves to play with colours and is experimental by nature, finds the sari “the most graceful and elegant Indian formal wear suiting all body types”.

To lure youngsters unused to handling six yards of unstitched richness, she has introduced various drapes like skirt saris and pre-pleated saris. The collection is available at the Design Studio, Ghaziabad.
