Car sales remained under pressure in the past two months although they were slightly better compared to the same period last year. Dealers report that high interest rates and greater difficulty in getting loans from banks and finance companies affected sales.
The Maruti Swift Dzire however reported excellent numbers and emerged as the best-selling saloon in India by a big margin. Waiting periods range from three months for the petrol version, to six months for the diesel version. The latter has been much in demand since its launch.
The Mahindra Bolero also reported strong numbers for September and sold more than twice as many units as its sibling, the Scorpio, which managed a respectable 3,056 units in the month.
Traditional best-seller Honda City’s sales dropped to 1,933 units as the model was about to be phased out. With the just launched new City being delivered to customers from November, it is sure to be back on top in no time.
