The big sales surprise in the recent months is the Wagon-R that narrowly missed the top spot from traditional best-seller Alto. Some potential Alto buyers are clearly postponing their purchases till they check out the Tata Nano.

Overall sales were pretty strong during the month inspite of price hikes by manufacturers as well as higher interest rates which pushed up the cost of finance.

The recently launched Fabia sold a little over 750 units and you can expect this number to keep growing as Skoda ramps up production. Maruti Dzire sold a little over 4,000 units, making it one of the top selling saloon cars in the country. Clearly the availability of a diesel option has helped to push sales strongly.

Meanwhile, sales of the Corolla have dropped to just 300 units with most buyers waiting for the new Corolla that is expected to be launched soon. It will be interesting to see how this new model fares against its traditional rival Honda Civic.
