FASHION Rachana Reddy, the Indian accessory designer, is sought after even in Europe and the US for her accessory line, Revel

If there's one Indian accessory designer who is aiming for the stars and is actually getting them, it has got to be Rachana Reddy. Her chic clutches in wood and leather have caught the world by storm so much so it isn't just Bollywood divas who are flaunting her designs. Even people in the European subcontinent and the USA are enamoured by her work.

Not so long ago she was approached by eminent International designer Paul Smith to retail her collections out of his stores in London and Paris. Her latest feat, however, is the launching of her new collection — Revel— that will run alongside the luxe line of RR signature wooden clutches.

“My diffusion line is all about adding that spark of glamour and colour into everyday basics, finished off with a touch of contemporary Indian. It might be similar to my other lines but being a diffusion range, the Revel collection is priced slightly lower,” Rachana says. According to her, “It was about time I moved a little away from just occasion accessories to everyday chic. So this range comprises clutches, laptop sleeves and sling bags too.”

Throwing light on the detailing, the designer states: “Like my other work, this is also motif oriented with similar cutwork but I've not used teakwood.” The colour palate of Revel ranges from green and orange to neutrals like black and white. While some of the clutches are made of wood, she has incorporated tan woven leather for others. Rachana is best known for her use of rich silks and this collection is no exception to her silk fancy.

She has also given poly jacquard a new feel. Not someone who is high on embellishment, Rachana's detailing includes aesthetic cutwork, patchwork, quilting and jaali work. Some of the clutches come with detachable wristlets.

Revel will be constantly updated, says the designer, and she goes on to add: “The USP of the Revel line is that it would follow trends/seasons and colours while my main line follows no particular trends or seasons.”
