S.R. ASHOK KUMAR
He started as a painter, drifted into acting and then surprised everyone with his writing skill. Alliance Company, one of the oldest publishing houses in Tamil Nadu, has published most of his works. Now, he has narrated the “Kambaramayanam” in poetry and explained it in prose. Sivakumar says he has always been interested in Tamil literature. “After acting in more than 100 films, I switched to television. After doing a couple of serials, I decided do act only if the role excited me. I am a regular dairy writer. When I saw my old diaries, I thought it would make for an interesting read for my fans and well wishers. So, it was published. All my books have gone into reprint. I was fascinated by the immortal poems in ‘Kambaramayanam’. I recently got a chance to talk to students in Erode and I decided to recite 100 verses of Kamban and and explain it in prose to the nearly 10,000-strong audience. . I was stunned at their knowledge.”
He spoke for more than two-and-a-half hours without taking a break. The DVD of the programme is to be released soon.
