Raghu Ram on ‘Sitaron Ko Choona Hai’
Everybody was surprised when he took a break from the ongoing season of MTV Roadies. Now we know where Raghu Ram was headed. The man, known for his rude comments and some original reality show gimmicks, is currently judging some soft skills in a music-based reality show Sitaron Ko Choona Hai on Real.
Says Raghu, “Sitaron Ko Choona Hai is different. There is no audition. The focus is on becoming a talented and committed stage performer.” The show which went on air recently is set in an academy with Raghu Ram as its head and Neha Bhasin (of Viva fame) and voice coach Prashant Samadhar as faculty members.
“It follows the grooming of 12 capable singers whose talent is being honed week after week. At the end of each week performance, rating cards are handed out. Two red cards lead to elimination,” he says.
Raghu says the most important difference is that there is no audience voting for the contestants. “I don’t like other talent hunts because despite having a panel of judges, it is the audience votes which decide the best performer. If the panel of experts is powerless, what’s the use? In such shows the real talent becomes a casualty,” he states.
So what would be his role in the academy as his singing prowess has not yet been seen? “As the head of the academy I would push the best talent forward and groom him/her. More than that I will bring my layman point of view to the table.” He says as the head of the academy it is his responsibility to make sure people are pushed enough to give the kind of performance which is required week after week. Recently, he made a statement about retirement plans but it seems it was also an attention-catching device. “I really want to retire but the fact is I am a middle-class boy and if I don’t work I would not be able to survive. I need to have a life at the end of the tunnel and that keeps me going. Eventually, I plan to go to the Himalayas, rent a room there and get down to write a book.” Knowing him, he will make a reality show out of that as well!
