Travel Book your airline tickets now, it’s raining discounts online
Sunday morning, a mother from a remote town in northeast calls her daughter in a metro, “I read, there is some kind of discount on airfares? Why don’t you check it out and visit home for a few days?” Another dude recalls, “A few days ago my friends called, no sooner did I say I am doing good, they said, ‘Come down to Delhi, let’s all meet. I got a very good deal from the offers which are on.”
In the past if many employees reported sick or absent from work due to ‘unavoidable circumstances’ you know why. With travel sites announcing deal/discounts on airfare, travel enthusiasts are working overtime on their personal computers looking for the best deals for a quick, unplanned holiday. So much so, that the tickets are booked first and then a leave application sent.
“By the time I wait for the approval of my leave, I might lose the deal. I am off for a few days, so will think of a reason for leave depending on my boss’ mood,” says Aruna Seth, a marketing professional.
So where are these tickets flying most of us to? Less preferred destinations? “They are in fact meant for most metros and in some sectors on all touchdown destinations and this comes contrary to the thought that the deals must be applicable to places which are not in demand,” says Srinivas Murthy, a travel agent.
He also points out “but customers are not approaching us for these tickets. The moment they read on any website or newspaper, they are booking their own tickets.”
So how are flyers coming to know of such deals? “I usually book my tickets online from a popular site and I received a mail from them. I missed the offer because I booked myself for two sectors only a few days ago. Nevertheless, I earned myself a pretty good deal,” says Pravallika Balakrishna, a copywriter. Also excited about the a good deal is Prapti Walia, a hotelier, “I had no plans to travel. But when I saw the deals I logged online to see what I can get hold of. The moment I saw the deal, I booked tickets to Udaipur to visit a friend. Enroute , I stop at Mumbai and have some more fun and indulge in some street shopping. My return tickets are a real deal.”
