The dubbed Telugu version of the hit Tamil romantic-drama Raja Rani raked in Rs.2.01 crore in its opening weekend. Trade analyst Trinath feels it’s an exceptional start for a dubbed movie. “It’s been a long time since a Tamil movie dubbed in Telugu has turned out to be a hit,” says Trinath. The original, directed by debutant Atlee Kumar, minted over Rs.50 crore at the box office.

A quiet Holi

Amitabh Bachchan was elated that this year Holi coincided with his daughter Shweta Nanda’s 40th birthday. The Bachchans didn’t want to have grand celebrations for Holi owing to passing away of distant relatives and instead chose to spend a quiet day with Shweta.

Allu Arjun credits directors of Telugu film industry for making heroes larger than life. He feels directors strive to portray heroes the way their fans want to see them on the screen. “It is the hard work of the directors that has helped actors like me to survive in the industry,” he says and adds that his forthcoming film Race Gurram , directed by Surendar Reddy, also follows the same trend. Race Gurram also features Shruti Haasan, Shaam and Saloni Aswani.

A fan club for Ilayaraja

Composer Karthik Raja will be launching a fan club for his father and maestro Illayaraja on April 5. The club will roll out a weekly magazine called Isaignani on the legendary composer and will take part in social activities. “This will be a fan club with a difference, reach out to the audience and take part in social activities,” says Karthik.

Meera wants to play a baddie

Priyanka Chopra’s cousin Meera Chopra, who is foraying into Hindi films with the forthcoming comedy Gang Of Ghosts, says she is eager to play negative roles and cites the example of roles Priyanka portrayed in Aitraaz and 7 Khoon Maaf . “Roles with grey shades are interesting,” she says. “If I get an opportunity, I will sign such a role with no second thoughts,” she adds. Gang Of Ghosts is directed by Satish Kaushik and also stars Mahie Gill and Sharman Joshi.
