The Prinsesstarta or princess cake is a traditional cake from Sweden made with alternating layers of sponge cake, whipped cream and pastry cream topped with marzipan. The recipe first became popular in the 1930s when a teacher to the daughters of Prince Carl, Duke of Vastergotland, first published it in a cook book. The princesses were said to have been specially fond of the cake.
