Workshop Poetry slam session with Bas Böttcher at Goethe-Zentrum

Poetry Slam blends poetry with music, performances, word play and imagination to bring life to verses. And here’s your chance to get a taste of the genre, which is not quite common in India. Goethe-Zentrum is bringing down Bas Böttcher, one of the founders of German-speaking poetry slam. Highly regarded for his classical slam poetry, Bas’ poems have been included in German textbooks and anthologies. He has won the German Poetry Slam Prize several times.

To interpret poetry and have fun with words, all you have to do is participate in a Slam Poetry Show on October 11 at 7 p.m . Entry is free. Bas also conducts a poetry slam workshop for children and adults on October 12. Both events are at Goethe-Zentrum.

At a poetry slam, the authors themselves present their poems before an audience, interpreting them in an active and lively fashion.

Usually the presentation is coupled with a performance and a character. The poems are presented one after another within a stipulated time. Music is allowed, so too options such as rap or hip hop. A jury or the audience then chooses a winner.

Registration is open to those aged 12 and above. There is no registration fee. Timings for the workshop is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Only 30 children will be admitted.
