Twilight series' second movie ‘New Moon' is set to release tomorrow

It's got the whole world talking. Seven werewolves snarling, seven Cullens biting, three Volturis frightening, one Edward hiding, one Bella brooding… right down to the partridge in the pear tree.

It's been four years since the first Twilight book came out and one would have thought that the tumult would see fit to subside by now. However, with second book New Moon now being launched in its cinematic avatar, it's time for young adults to scream themselves hoarse even as their older counterparts aren't too far behind.

New characters

First movie Twilight dealt with the intense attraction between girl-next-door Bella (Kristen Stewart) and impossibly hot “vegetarian vampire” Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) in a manner reminiscent of MC Hammer's U Can't Touch This. Sequel New Moon steps up on the drama, with the introduction of a host of new characters and scenes.

New Moon sees Bella feebly struggling with her emotions as Edward breaks up with her, eventually turning to her best friend (and werewolf) Jacob, played by Taylor Lautner, for comfort and the possibility of a new romance. Throw in a vampire seeking vengeance, Bella leaping off cliffs,

Edward racing towards imminent death, and a group of extremely good-looking werewolves – and you have a winner.

Twilight may have only just released in Hyderabad, a year after it released abroad, but the wait for New Moon won't be as long. “I can't wait to gauge the chemistry between Bella and Jacob, and compare it to Edward and Bella,” says 17-year-old Deepika Patel. “I'm on Team Pattinson all the way, but Jacob is adorable too.” It's like déjà vu, throwing back to the days of frenzy over the Harry Potter books – although true-blue Potter fans will scoff. Forums are flooded with squeals and swoons over Edward's good looks and the very restrained romance scenes. Fan fiction, movie stills and trailers also did the rounds, building up to the ultimate releases.

“It appeals to the excited teenager within me,” says 20-year-old Anisha Kapur. “I watched the first movie 6 times even as I told myself it's quite silly. But there's eye candy, drama, romance, suspense – it's addictive.”

Directed by Chris Weitz and already garnering over $230 million in the first ten days of its release in the U.S., New Moon releases in India on December 4.
