EVENT Catch two films this weekend
T he Chennai American Library presents the Saturday Matinee today. At 11 a.m. watch “It's Complicated”, directed by Nancy Meyers. The 2009-film features Meryl Streep, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. The 121-minute film is a hilarious look at marriage, divorce and everything in between. Jane (Streep) has three grown-up kids, a thriving Santa Barbara bakery, and an amicable relationship with her ex-husband, Jake (Baldwin).
A decade after their divorce, an innocent dinner between Jane and Jake turns into the unimaginable — an affair. Caught in the middle of their rekindled romance are Jake's young wife and Adam (Martin), a recently divorced architect who starts to fall for Jane. Could love be sweeter the second time around? It's… complicated!
At 2.30 p.m., catch 2010 Tamil film (with English subtitles) “Maa: The Change”, directed by Fathima Beevi. The film is about believing in the abilities of the differently-abled and about treating them as equals, rather than as unlucky people who need help and sympathy. It's about a love story that begins to give a person hope, and then suddenly turns bitter, because he's differently-abled. Do things change? Is there realisation that being differently-abled does not make a person helpless? Is he treated as an equal?
The 106-minute film is being screened in cooperation with the Tamil Nadu Handicapped Federation Charitable Trust, Chennai.
The films will be screened at the U.S. Consulate, Cathedral Road. Visitors must produce a valid ID proof.
