Fardeen Khan to relive his father Feroz Khan's role

Shiva 2006, Don - the chase begins, Umrao Jaan and Ram Gopal Varma ki Sholay are not the last of the remakes. Amar Akbar Antony and Satte Pe Satta are next on the list. And now Kurbani will aim to be the new Qurbani. Reviving the cult hit will be Feroz Khan himself and donning Feroz's role will be son Fardeen. "When dad told me about his plans, I was thrilled. It's a contemporary story with a lot of scope. It will be a challenge to take Kurbani a step ahead of the original. People say I am the chip of the old block so I guess it will be fun doing my father's role," says Fardeen, in the city to inaugurate the McDonald's outlet at Sanali Mall, Abids.Saif Ali Khan was roped in for Vinod Khanna's part but the chotte nawab is said to have opted out eventually. Clearing the rumours of a tiff between the two, Fardeen says, "We celebrated during the launch of Kurbani. Saif was unable to allot his dates and left on an amiable note. I hold no grudges against him." Kurbani is not the only film on Fardeen's roster. There's Ram Gopal Varma's Darling, Meghna Gulzar's Baat Pakki, a project titled Jai-Veeru and Sajid's Khan film as well. "Darling is a spooky tale about ghosts. Jai-Veeru has nothing to do with Sholay; it's a tale of two friends. I'll be acting with a younger actor, Kunal Khemu. Baat Pakki is the serious film of the lot. It looks at a realistic situation of a couple falling in love with each other post marriage."Things haven't been too flattering for Fardeen at the box office. After being part of the stupendous hit No Entry came the dud called Shaadi No. 1. "I don't know what went wrong. Maybe people had just seen me in a comedy and Shaadi No. 1 was on similar lines. I enjoyed the film nevertheless," he defends.Life has been eventful over the last one year after he tied the knot with Mumtaz's daughter Natasha Madhvani. Quiz him if marriage has made him more responsible and he says, "I wasn't irresponsible earlier. Marriage hasn't changed me. Natasha married the man she loved, so I'd like to remain the man she loved."Finally, minutes before leaving for the airport, he says, "I've come to Hyderabad to shoot for some of my earlier films. But this visit was something else. I was surprised and taken aback by the large turnout of people at the mall. For security reasons, I was advised to make a hasty exit."SANGEETHA DEVI. K
