The December rape of a young woman in New Delhi followed by two publicised attacks on foreign female travellers has altered how tourists view India and led to a sharp fall in tourist numbers, a study said. In the three months since the attack, the number of tourists dropped by 25 per cent, according to the study conducted by Assocham, with women tourists falling by 35 per cent. The study said that travellers planning trips to India had opted for Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam. — AP

Tokyo's first amphibious tourist buses have been put into service. They carry passengers through the city's low eastern side by road before taking to the Naka river during the 100-minute Tokyo Splash Tour. The two buses, dubbed Sky Ducks, start off from Tokyo's new landmark Skytree, the world's tallest communications tower. Tickets are priced at 2,800 yen ($30) apiece for an adult. — AFP

The Magic Kingdom has closed its gates to unaccompanied children under the age of 14. The Los Angeles Times reported that all Disney theme parks in the US now require that all kids be accompanied by someone over the age of 14 in order to enter the properties, which include the famous Disneyworld in Miami, Florida and Disneyland in Anaheim, California. — DPA
