M ercedes Benz India is all set to expand its S-Class range with a wider variety of engines to choose from. An entry level S300L with a 2996cc V6 developing a modest 228bhp is being developed and is expected to cost ‘only' an approximate Rs. 70 lakh.

The S300L, which will give a tough fight to the Audi A8 and the BMW 7-series, undercuts the current S350L, which has recently been discontinued, by a substantial margin.

Also on the cards for Mercedes in the coming months is the S350 CGI which gets Merc's latest direct-injection V6. Power goes up to 302bhp from 272bhp in the standard version.

Finally, completing the petrol line-up is the S500 CGI which churns out a thumping 429bhp to offer customers added power and opulence. Mercedes hopes to increase the sales of the S-class by around 40 per cent over the last financial year with this line up of new engines.
