Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh on his role in Jail
Neil Nitin Mukesh is always in the news — whether it is for his bare all act in Jail or his passion for fitness. He shares his thoughts on working with director Madhur Bhandarkar, the nude scene and his fitness secrets.
Were you hesitant about doing the nude scene in Jail?
No, not at all. We knew that this scene was going to be there. Madhur has shot it aesthetically.
You look very fit. Were you asked to have a particular kind of look for your role?
I was told that I shouldn’t have a muscular body because my character, Parag Dixit, is an ordinary man and the audience has to identify with him. As I was working on Aa Dekhe Zara at that time, I had to concentrate on working out. In the first half of Jail, we didn’t want my character to have a muscular physique, so we adapted; and I guess Madhur sir is happy. And so am I.
How did you get to be so fit?
I follow a strict diet. Fitness is about 70 per cent diet and 30 per cent workouts. I concentrate on weight-training for three-four days and cardio for two-three days.
What other preparations did you do for your role?
We have done our research from movies, from real-life stories and from newspaper reports documented between 1988 to 2009. We also went to Pune Jail and to Thane Jail.JOGAR SHAH
