Bollywood actor Sonali Bendre has become quite visible on the small screen of late. At 38, the mother of a seven-year-old, looks as ravishing as ever, and is known for her toned and slender body.

Asked about her fitness routine, she says, “I need to follow a regimen. I’ve been working continuously for the past two months and haven’t found time to visit the gym. Travelling makes my work stressful and as a consequence, I don’t feel inclined to exercise.” However, she believes she is lucky, as working out just two or three times a week keeps her healthy and in shape.

A balanced diet enables her to keep fit. Sonali says she is a healthy eater and swears by fruits, salads and khichdi. Though she doesn’t follow a very strict diet, she ensures she is “very careful about her eating habits”.

She is keen that her son eats healthy, for she is aware that children get into the habit of eating comfort food at a very young age. To prevent her son from acquiring unhealthy dietary habits, she is particular he eats wholesome nourishment.

At a time when “size zero” is the buzzword, she advocates that it’s best to be content with one’s own body type and strive to be healthy. She says she too believes in keeping fit rather than trying to knock off the kilos and become thin.

According to her, a woman should take her own time to lose weight after childbirth, just as she did. So her advice to mothers is to let weight-loss be a natural process. She adds, “You should feel good about yourself, instead of worrying about keeping slim.”

Recognising skincare as an integral part of wellness, she believes that one’s skin reflects one’s physical health. Sonali feels food today is not as nutritious as it was in the past; hence, it has become all the more important to pay heed to our eating habits.
