FILM Watch a movie on the life of the late artist Jean-Michel Basquiat

T he Friday Movie Club screens a film on the life of the late American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.

In a tragically short but eventful lifetime, he went from an unknown nineteen-year-old dabbling in graffiti to becoming one of the most successful, controversial, glamorous artists of his time.

Every aspect of his life became a subject for the media. He died at the age of 27 due to drug overdose.

Directed by American artist and film-maker, Julian Schnabel, this biopic features David Bowie as Basquiat's friend and mentor, Andy Warhol. Jeffrey Wright plays Basquiat and the supporting cast includes Gary Oldman, Dennis Hopper, Claire Forlani, Courtney Love and Benicio del Toro.

The movie will be screened this evening at 7 p.m. at Cholamandal Centre for Contemporary Art (CCCA)
