If a heavy and sumptuous spread is on your mind, try this mutton recipe. The ingredients are not imposing and it does not pinch on your time either. The recipe works well with rice and breads.

Mutton Varatiyathu

Ingredients

Mutton Half kg cut into 12 pieces

Chilly powder 1 tbsp

Coriander powder 1 tbsp

Turmeric powder Half tsp

Salt to taste

Coconut oil Half cup

Ginger, juliennes 2 spoonful

Garlic pods, sliced 8

Green chilly, slit 8

Shallots, sliced 1 cup

Curry leaves 2 sprigs

Pepper powder 1 and half tbsp

Coconut, sliced and cut into 1/2 inch pieces Half cup

Coriander leaves, chopped to garnish

Method

Add chilly powder, coriander and turmeric powder and salt to the washed mutton pieces and keep aside for 15 minutes. Put the marinated meat into a pressure cooker, add half cup water and cook till the mutton is well done. Saute ginger, garlic, green chilly, shallots and curry leaves in coconut oil till it turns golden. To this, add the cooked mutton. Add pepper powder and mix well. Keep on low flame and let all the juice evaporate. When dry, add the coconut pieces and stir well. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
