Atraditional German dish, maultaschen is a pasta dough that encloses traditional fillings such as minced or smoked meat, spinach, bread crumbs and onions with herbs and spices. Generally square or rectangular-shaped, maultaschen is generally eaten on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. Since Christians are encouraged to abstain from meat during Lent, maultaschen had meat concealed in the pasta dough
