TV BBC’s popular quiz gets a twist in ‘Disney Q – The Family Mastermind’
Disney Channel, in partnership with BBC Worldwide Productions India, is bringing the successful show ‘Mastermind’ to India, albeit with a twist. The new show, ‘Disney Q – The Family Mastermind’, will see families come together to battle it out for the India’s Smartest Family title.
The host of this new show will be theatre and film artiste Benjamin Gilani. “After seeing success in creating local fiction content, we decided to do this show while also keeping the ‘family appeal’ quotient high,” says Devika Prabhu, director (programming), Kids Network, Disney-UTV. “Even though it involves the entire family, the kid will be at the centre of the quiz and will play the role of the team leader,” she adds.
Every episode will see two families take to participants’ chair to answer the maximum number of questions correctly. Each family will comprise four members (including the kid’s parents and sometimes grandparents) and four rounds will test the kid’s general knowledge, the family’s – based on their subject of choice, a nominated member’s knowledge, and a final intense round that will test the entire family’s general knowledge with negative marks for wrong answer. “The show will be serious as will be the questions, but we feel that the presence of kids will add levity,” Devika explains.
‘Disney Q – The Family Mastermind’ will premiere on February 25 at 7.30 p.m. on Disney Channel and will be telecast from Mondays to Thursdays. The first season will have 55 episodes – 26 episodes for two groups, and the quarter, semi and the finals episodes. Season 1 will have two families competing for the title.
