TV BBC’s popular quiz gets a twist in Disney Q — The Family Mastermind

Disney Channel, in partnership with BBC Worldwide Productions India, is bringing the successful show Mastermind to India, albeit with a twist. The new show, Disney Q — The Family Mastermind , will see families come together to battle it out for the India’s Smartest Family title.

The host of this new show will be theatre and film artiste Benjamin Gilani. “After seeing success in creating local fiction content, we decided to do this show while also keeping the ‘family appeal’ quotient high,” says Devika Prabhu, director (Programming), Kids Network, Disney-UTV. “Even though it involves the entire family, the kid will be at the centre of the quiz and will play the role of the team leader,” she adds.

Every episode will see two families take to the chair to answer the maximum number of questions correctly. Each family will comprise four members (including the kid’s parents and sometimes grandparents) and four rounds will test the kid’s general knowledge, the family’s — based on their subject of choice, a nominated member’s knowledge, and a final intense round that will test the entire family’s general knowledge with negative marks for wrong answer.

“The show will be serious as will be the questions, but we feel that the presence of kids will add levity,” Devika explains.

Disney Q — The Family Mastermind will premiere on February 25 at 7.30 p.m. on Disney Channel and will be telecast from Mondays to Thursdays. The first season will have 55 episodes — 26 episodes for two groups, and the quarter-, semi- and the finals episodes. Season 1 will have two families competing for the title.

LM100™ members and Indian artist duo Jitin Thukral and Sumir Tagra have been selected to create the new interactive installation. Known for a body of work that is truly pop, Thukral & Tagra collaborate in a wide variety of media including painting, sculpture, installation, video, graphic and product design. They eloquently mix high art with low art, design with formal art standards, and ornate objects with everyday products. Their work comments on the globalization of consumer culture as experienced in today’s India and the human tendency to dream. The installation for Le Méridien New Delhi embodies this spirit of the artists and provides an engaging experience that will transform the first ten minutes of a guest’s arrival moment at the hotel.

Speaking on the occasion, Tarun Thakral Chief Operating Officer Le Méridien New Delhi said, “Le Méridien New Delhi has always shown a key interest in taking the lead to create innovative expressions of art and design to engage our guests.
