Initiative Make A Difference to erect a ‘Wall of Hope’ at IIT-M Saarang

It is a ‘MAD’ initiative designed to make a difference. Make A Difference (popular as MAD), a burgeoning body of 1,500 volunteers, spread across 23 Indian cities, that is driven by the goal of teaching underprivileged children quality English and ensuring their placement in jobs where application of this language is paramount, is erecting a ‘wall of hope’.

In association with IIT-M Saarang and 3M (which manufactures post-its and flex material, among other things), the Chennai Chapter of MAD is at present engaged in a four-day exercise that involves raising a 75 sq. metre wall of flex sheet, where letters in the phrase ‘HOPE FOR CHANGE’ written on chart papers will be pasted. As the next step, visitors, including participants of the cultural fest Saarang and beneficiaries of MAD’s social project, will be invited to paste post-it notes about messages that reflect the changes they want to see, within these letters. A total of 18,000 post-it notes are expected to cover the 13 letters. Those behind the exercise expect it to break into the Limca Book of Records. The wall will occupy a prominent place at IIT for maximum visibility. The event will run alongside Saarang.
