Event From lunches to gifts, games and discounts, organisations and hotels in the city are going all out to celebrate Women’s Day

Angel Stores

An Angel store…the sound of it has a quaint feel. The term conjures up visions of all things nice. This Women’s Day, as an acknowledgement of the contribution of women in the services sector, Vodafone will launch its first ‘Angel’ store, in Kerala, at Aluva today. S. Murali, business head (Vodafone, Kerala), says it is a pioneering concept of a retail store managed and run by women and that it goes a long way towards women’s empowerment. These Vodafone stores with exclusively women staff will be called ‘Angel Stores’.

The staff at the store right from the security personnel to management level will be women. And every other post in between will be held by women. This is just the first such endeavour in Kerala, there are plans to start other such Angel stores in the State, Murali assures. The other driving force is the company’s belief that economic empowerment of women is a building block in social development, he adds. Besides the staff, the experience would be a first for the customers as well.

Indian Oil Corporation

For a few lucky women, this Women’s Day will be all about pink and getting ‘special’ treatment. But there is a section which the hullaballoo around Women’s Day passes by. The day has no special significance for them. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), however, has decided to celebrate this special day and the oft ignored category of women differently. In a glittering function at the KMA Hall on March 8, IOC will honour 28 women attendants at their various outlets in the city. The women will be honoured with lavish gift hampers, there will be a talk on health and on safety measures and there will be a sumptuous lunch, too.

UST Global

As part of Women’s Day celebrations, UST Global will organise a bouquet of programs for its employees as well as for peers from other companies in Technopark. Every year, the Network of Women Ussociates (NowU) takes the lead in organising programmes.

This year, the events include a panel discussion based on the theme adopted by UN for this year’s Women’s Day - “A promise is a promise: Time for action to end violence against women”, Creative Art Gallery– An exhibition to showcase and sell handcrafts made by women from the city, an oncology session, visit to a destitute home, exhibition from healthcare companies for women, quiz by Rekha Menon and sessions on “professional grooming.” Nandini Saba, General Manager, NOW U head, UST Global will be present.

A leadership programme for women will also be launched on March 8, which aims at helping them with tools, hands on experience and mentorship to become more successful and effective leaders.

As part of its Women’s Day celebrations, Dream Hotel Cochin has planned many activities to make the day special for its team members and guests. They will conduct a function honouring its women staff for their contribution. And there is a special event for women guests at AvA Lounge. The women guests will get unlimited beverages and special gifts, besides they will also get a 20 per cent discount in their restaurants – Keshia and the High Bar—grill and barbeque restaurant – on the total bill.

Beaumonde The Fern

Beaumonde The Fern Hotel will offer its women guests special benefits from March 8 to 10. Cilantro and Gravity will give a 30 per cent discount for tables that have at least one woman. Unlimited soft beverages, lucky lady dip with a prize of a free stay voucher in any of the Fern Hotels, future discount voucher with validity of two months and a special treat for the ongoing Rajasthani food festival await.
