Banker, musician, theatre artist, entrepreneur…Vidushi Mehra is quite the dabbler who finally realised that acting is probably what she enjoyed the most. “Acting is something I have been doing from the age of four. I did plays in school and then theatre. But never had I thought that it would become my career. I worked for 10 years in the corporate world and after I had two children I decided to go back to theatre,” says Vidushi.

The young actor who is married to designer Nikhil Mehra (of the Shantanu and Nikhil duo) steers clear of mentioning her age. “Why as Indian actors we are compelled not to mention our age is because people often end up slotting us and saying ‘oh, she’s above 30, that’s the end of her career’,” she says adding, “But that’s not could be the beginning of a career!”  A theatre artiste with a list of performances to her credit, it was during a rehearsal for a play that she met a casting director and got her first role in the film Aisha , followed by No One Killed Jessica and a cameo in Saath Khoon Maaf . And then Fugly came her way. Set for release in May, it’s in its dubbing stages now. “After films such as Rang De Basanti and No One Killed Jessica , this is a film that questions the social ethos. It’s a socio-political thriller,” she informs. Vidushi plays the role of a journalist who is a game-changer in the plot. Fugly stars Jimmy Shergill and a new crop of actors including boxer Vijender Singh who is making his acting debut. “Since most of us are new, nobody had any airs or belonged to any camps. We helped each other with our work,” she says.

In addition, the upcoming actor is into singing too. “Music happened when I was a child and was cast in a musical.” As a result Vidushi was part of theatre productions such as ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Annie’ and ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’. “I am taking up singing lessons now...who knows, in keeping with the current trend I might cut an album,” she laughs.
