W ikipedia defines T’ai Chi Ch’uan, popularly known as “Tai Chi” in the West, as a type of internal Chinese hard and soft martial art technique, practiced for variety of reasons ranging from defense training to health benefits and longevity. Multiple traditional and modern training forms exist, which correspond to several slow and gentle low impact movements.
The martial art form is touted as the passport to health, fitness and peace of mind as it helps in burning more calories than for instance, surfing. It is said one hour sessions of regular Tai Chi significantly increases the psychological well-being by reducing stress, anxiety and depression.
