MUSIC The actor sings for Ilaiyaraaja who is composing tunes for the Hindi film Happi

Ilaiyaraaja and Kamal Haasan have always had immense respect for each other. Here’s an incident that highlights this well-known fact.

Recently, Ilaiyaraaja was recording a song for the Hindi film Happi . The singer who was rendering the song was unable to deliver what the maestro wanted. After a couple of rehearsals, Ilaiyaraaja was still not satisfied. He then asked Kamal to come to the recording theatre as soon as possible. The actor did so and finished the recording in 30 minutes.

The song ‘Zindagi Dish’ is penned by Jaideep Sahni. The film’s director Bhavna Talwar said, “We wanted Ilaiyaraaja’s music, and now we also have Kamal Haasan singing for the film. We know Kamal has played the role of Charlie Chaplin in a Tamil film, and Happi is a tribute to the legend. So everything fell in place.”

When asked to comment, Kamal said, “I have a lot of respect for some of the greats of the film industry such as Sivaji Ganesan, K. Balachander and Ilaiyaraaja. When they call, I go immediately.”
