Chatline Jimmy Xavier, creative director of a radio station and co-founder of the theatre company Jugaad Co, started off as a computer programmer. He tells NIKHIL VARMA he quit when realised it was not his calling

He started writing code for an IT firm, but quit within nine months to look for his true calling. Jimmy Xavier, the creative director of Radio Mirchi and co-founder of Jugaad Co, a play production company says, “I started freelancing. I worked in plays, did some work for AIR in Bangalore and Chennai and also wrote articles about theatre in many newspapers. I landed a role in a play by Evam in Chennai. Many roles followed. I got an offer and started working for Radio Mirchi and helped in setting up their stations in Chennai and Bangalore. I continued doing plays, though my work at Mirchi took up most of my time. I moved back to Bangalore in 2006.”

Work pressures consumed most of his time and Jimmy was not very active in the theatre circuit in the city. “It all restarted last year, when me and my wife, Anna Thomas decided to conduct some plays for the Short and Sweet play festival in the city. The plays were supposed to be very short. We managed to enact a play and the idea to start a company was floated and Jugaad company was born.”
