Clean the aval in a little water, drain the water immediately and keep aside. Soak the tamarind in a little water for five minutes and sieve it through a fine cloth. Keep it aside. Pour the oil in a frying pan and place the pan on a low flame. When the oil is hot, put in the mustard, dry chilli, curry leaves and the chopped onion in it. Add the tamarind water and salt. Put in a pinch of turmeric powder and stir well. Remove the pan from the flame and let it cool for two minutes. Put in the aval, scrapped coconut, coriander leaves and required salt. Stir the entire mixture well and allow it to cool. Serve.
