Aseem Trivedi’s voice booms emphatically as he asserts that he is “for every fight against corruption in any form”.

The 25-year-old cartoonist’s anti-corruption cartoons recently landed him in the thick of a controversy with charges of sedition slapped on him and public outcry over his arrest. He has been out since September 12th after posting a personal bond of Rs.5, 000. The sedition charges against him have since been dropped.

Post his release from jail, Trivedi has returned to focussing his energies on the fight against corruption. “The message of rising against corruption should reach people from all walks of life who might be facing problems with corrupt officials or maybe want an effective Lokayukta,” he says.

It was his search for a platform large enough from which he could deliver his message to the national audience that Trivedi chose to make an appearance on television. He is now appearing as a contestant in the 6th season of the reality show Bigg Boss on Colors.

“With the help of the show as a larger platform I want to personally deliver this message and bring it to a larger audience,” Trivedi explained.

He added, “They (the people) have only seen me in the media regarding the charges. A lot was said about me during that time. I want to address some of the things said and also explain some others.”

Addressing the competitive aspect of the reality show where contestants often resort to strategy and subterfuge, Trivedi says his belief rests firmly in the power of democracy. With the power resting in the people’s hands he is confident that there exists no need to stoop to tricks and manipulations.

Trivedi has no plans of letting his cartooning shift on to the back burner. He insists that his medium is primarily that of cartoons.

“Going into the house, my cartoons will take a short hiatus. I will however carry on with them as my main medium of expression.” With the reality show hitting the air now, Trivedi is arrested once more albeit this time with a chance at coming out with some serious prize money!
