November 14 to 20 is being celebrated as National Book Week. Organised by the National Book Trust and in its 29th edition, the event, which is targeted at children, is being observed in 21 cities in 17 states and union territories.

Author Milan Vohra’s tips for parents to inculcate good reading habits in young children:

Start reading aloud to them from very early on.

Don’t judge what they read. Get them chatting about it so they are comfortable sharing their views .

Keep some time as a family that is TV-free. It opens up a lot of room for chatting and laughter and it could so easily also be about what you or they are reading at the moment.

Lead by example and learn by example too.
