What's the latest in hairstyles and cosmetics?

Most of us keep track of the latest trends in fashion and jewellery but seldom experiment with new hairstyles or make-up. Let's check out the latest trends in hair and make-up and take a few style cues from the experts.

Straightened hair has been the trend for a while but right now, curls are ‘in'. “Short or shoulder length hair is in and the ‘graduated bob' is becoming popular . This cut has longer hair in the front and it gets shorter around the nape,” says Swetha Kunjan of Live In More Style, a hair studio in Kochi. If long hair is what you prefer, then layering will add to your glam quotient. Fringes are back in style too.

Shades of brown, honey and red are the colours this season for streaking your hair but for global hair colouring, apart from the regular shades such as brown and burgundy, violet is the chic new shade.

Right make-up gives you an instant makeover. Getting the right shade of foundation to complement your skin tone is important. Shobha Kunjan of Live In More Style, recommends a ‘3-in-1 makeup' pan stick which has a moisturiser, foundation and powder. A blusher adds colour to your cheeks. If you are going out in the sun, use a sun block.

For the eyes, the heavy smoky look is the style for evening and party wear, while the soft, subtle look is for the day. For the lips, the nude glossy look is the new style statement.

Using a moisturiser before applying the lipstick protects your lips and lets your lipstick stay longer. Go for neutral shades of pink and beige for the day and darker shades such as red and maroon for evening wear.

While getting the makeup right is important, it is equally important to remove the makeup. Cleanse, tone and moisturise your face at the end of the day.
