Cricket No need to divide your loyalties between ICL and Tests, Kapil Dev advises fans

Eat, drink and sleep cricket. That is the way former world cup winning captain Kapil Dev would have us lead our lives.

Kapil, who is one of the brains behind the ICL, now in its second edition, wants cricket lovers to enjoy both the current India-Australia Test series as well as the ICL matches.

Speaking at the announcement of the Delhi Giants team receiving sponsorship from Luminous, Kapil said, “I would like people to see the test matches during the day and relax by watching ICL T20 matches in the evening.”

Kapil emphasised that the players should not be stopped from playing anywhere and criticised those cricket boards that have banned the ICL players from playing for the country.

Reacting to the latest decision of the Bangladesh cricket establishment, Kapil said, “I want to send a message to them through the media, that banning the players is not a solution.”

Even as the likes of Avishka Gunawardene and Marvan Attapattu looked on, Kapil praised the Sri Lankan Board and specially Arjuna Ranatunga for its decision to allow the ICL players to compete in the domestic and international matches.

“If any of the ICL players gets a call from their Board to represent his country, I will ask him to take the first flight back home and play for his country.

Also, we don’t want to embrace players who have had a fight with their respective boards. For instance, we did not accept Shoaib Akhtar when he had a fight with the Pakistan Cricket Board.”
