The Oak Tree offers a wide and tasty range of cuisine

You don’t usually come across a swanky bistro serving imported sausages and meats grilled on lava stones, but at Super Mart 1, Gurgaon, The Oak Tree offers such indulgences. The restaurant is aesthetically appealing with earthy colours, offering an informal dining and lounge area. The interiors are beautiful with warm yellow furnishings, which remind you of the shade of an old oak tree.

The 71-cover bistro lays out multi-cuisine fare, with Mediterranean food being its speciality. It also offers cuisines from Singapore and Europe as well. “We provide our customers with very honest and authentic food,” quips Ajay Dhar, a young entrepreneur with interests in travel, food and music.

The Oak Tree offers imported premium wines, single malts, martinis, cocktails and mocktails, all moderately priced to complement the theme of a bistro. The food also lives up to expectations.

One must try the minestrone soup and the steaming tom yum goong, which make for a good beginning. Among starters, 48-hour chicken nuggets is a unique dish. Fish lovers can safely try the tuna and gherkin sandwich. There’s a beautifully presented platter of grilled Mediterranean veggies with asparagus, tomato and couscous. Risottos are pretty well done here. The Asian selection includes chicken and lamb in typical Thai curries, strongly flavoured with coconut and served with peanut rice.

For dessert, one can go for stuffed pear with wine-poached mascarpone served with cranberry coulis (a thick sauce). Those with less of a sweet tooth, can opt for a cheese platter. The bistro will soon also offer a separate vegetarian and kids’ menu. Average meal for two, is Rs.1200 (exclusive of liquor and taxes).
