Semi-precious designer jewellery is gaining acceptance by the day for its multi-purpose use

Remember how eagerly many of us waited to catch a glimpse of the first look of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much anticipated film  Ram Leela  featuring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. The most striking feature that came to the fore when the public finally got to see the first look of the gorgeous Deepika in the film was her boho chic style that became an instant rage.

Sonam Kapoor is one such actress who has always ruled the chart when it comes to fashion, thanks to her bold approach. But her contemporary Deepika Padukone is no less as the diva makes a style statement with her distinct look and the ease with which she carries herself in the public.

Post-Ram Leela, the polki danglers she sported have become a rage among young girls. And cashing in on the craze, companies which are into carving out semi-precious and designer jewellery have been churning out replicas of the elegant danglers that stole a hundred hearts.

“These polki danglers are carved out with silver as base metal and 22 karat gold plating with authentic kundan work. After the release of the movie, young girls went gaga over the jewellery flaunted by the leggy lass in Ramleela ,” admits Sudhish Kumar of Art Karat, the company that has designed the much sought after danglers.

As part of its annual visit, Art Karat has descended on the city with its latest ‘ Kanha ’ collection—Jewellery inspired by the divine Shringaar of Radha.

“We started at a time when semi-precious designer jewellery was unheard of and gold was the only metal considered worthy of wearing as an ornament. Jewellery was worn more for its social interpretation of status rather than its capacity to adorn,” says Sudhish Kumar.

“True. Times are changing. These semi-precious pieces of wonder are the best bet in the current day scenario when people are eager to flaunt a different look every time they attend a function. If the venue of the party or any other occasion is outside the city, you can’t afford to carry gold ornaments with you. Designer jewellery comes into the play at such times. They look gorgeous and come in the desired patterns that can be displayed in myriad hues,” says G. Kiranmayi, who works for the insurance sector.

“Unlike in the past, these days you have at least half-a-dozen rituals associated with one gala wedding. After selecting your ensemble all you need to do is to grab a few sets of designer jewellery that takes care of your constant worry to look a million dollars,” chips in her friend Mahalakshmi, a homemaker.

“The best part of it is that you can wear some of these to work and also some when you are off the clock. They all seem very wearable but at the same time fashionable,” says Lavanya, a lecturer in a local college.
