Prashant Sawant, the man who deserves the credit for the sculpted bodies of Bollywood heroes
Although most of his clientele includes Bollywood hotshots like Shah Rukh Khan, Sharman Joshi, Aftab Shivdasani, Amisha Patel and Amrita Rao, Prashant Sawant, the man behind their fabulously sculpted bodies takes no fragment of the glory or credit that is rightfully his.
In a telephonic chat with the celebrity trainer, Prashant talks of his journey thus far. “I have been doing this for a decade now. For the first few years, I worked in a number of gyms until of course I was able to set up my own. I never imagined I'd be training celebrities but here I am today,” he says.
According to him, “There was no advertising of my gym or self-promotion. It was the people who were satisfied with the fitness training they were receiving from me that spread word. However, it is SRK who has been the one of the prime reasons behind my success. He has supported me, encouraged me, boosted my confidence and has treated me just like a friend.”
It's quite obvious that Prashant Sawant became a brand when he helped SRK get his deadly six-pack abs for his role in “Don”. “More than just the fitness regime that SRK followed, it was his perseverance, hardwork and commitment that yielded the results everybody witnessed,” the fitness connoisseur explains.
While many would think a star of any rank would have his or her airs and graces, Prashant feels he's fortunate to work with celebrities who are humble and are willing to learn, ask for help and take suggestions. “There is no pretence or a feeling that they're superior. The way they take care of their staff and the kind of friendly but professional relationship I share with each of them is simply wonderful and touching.
So who does he think has the fittest and most perfect body in tinsel town? “Among the men, it's got to be Hrithik Roshan and among the girls, it's undoubtedly Bipasha Basu.” And would he advocate a la Kareena Kapoor size zero fad? “I wouldn't want to comment on that but I will say that Kareena has a toned body and she seems to pay a good deal of attention to it.”
Stating that it is important to gym not just to look good but to stay healthy and fit, Prashant Sawant hands out a few tips for those who want to get in shape.
“With everyone having to deal with high levels of stress, it's important to take time at least twice a week to work out at the gym. A brisk morning walk daily can do a world of good. It doesn't make sense to exercise any which way. There is a different working style for different body types. Follow a work-out that suits you best. Finally, perseverance is the key to success,” he signs off.NEETI SARKAR
